Pacific Explorers: Man The Oars & Map The Coast

Grades 4 and 5
Discover the significance of Captain George Vancouver’s voyage to our coast more than 200 years ago. Experience life as one of his crew; learn about his interaction with First Nations people, navigation technology of the time and how he created the first detailed charts (maps) of the BC coastline.

Curriculum Connections

  • compare the “discovery” and “exploration” of North America from European and Aboriginal people’s perspectives
  • demonstrate understanding of factors that influenced early European exploration of North America
  • describe technology used in exploration
