What type of clothing should the children wear?
Most programs involve some physical activities and some programs are partially conducted out doors so please ask children to dress in warm waterproof clothing (layers are great) with rubber-soled shoes. The weather outside the Maritime Museum is always cool because of its close proximity to the ocean.

Does the Museum have a lunchroom?
Unfortunately because of space limitations the Museum is not able to provide a space for lunch. Most groups will lunch outdoors at the beach. In extreme weather conditions and if space is available, classes may be allowed to have a quick lunch in the lobby area.

Will the children have time for a snack?
Program booking times do not consider snack breaks. If your travel time to the Maritime Museum is long please allow time for a snack before your program.

Does the program include a visit on board St Roch?
Some programs take place on board St Roch. Self-guided visits of St Roch can be arranged before or after your program for an additional fee. Please inquire when booking your program.

Are we allowed to wander around the Museum before or after our program?
Visits to the Museum's galleries must be pre-booked for an additional fee. Please inquire when booking your program.

Do the children need to bring any classroom supplies with them on their field trip?
The Museum will send a master copy of gallery activity sheets for self-guided visits. Please bring enough copies and pencils for your students.

How many parent helpers are needed and what will be expected of them?
We allow one adult free with every four children booked. Parent helpers provide invaluable assistance during the visit. They accompany children to the washrooms, assist with monitoring safety while in the building or on the dock and assist with the distribution and collection of program supplies.

Is there parking at the Museum?
Free parking is provided. Upon arrival, group leaders must come into the Museum for parking passes.

What happens if we're late for our program?
We ask that your group arrive at the Museum fifteen minutes before your program scheduled start time. If you are late we will try our best to accommodate your group.

What happens if we have to cancel our program?
Museum policy allows for groups to cancel up to two weeks in advance of the scheduled booking without penalty. If groups cancel within the two-week policy they will be billed for the full amount of their booking.

Did you know?
That Captain George Vancouver was an experienced, sailor, explorer, navigator and cartographer who mapped the coastline of British Columbia in 1792. In several voyages between 1791 and 1795, Captain Vancouver charted for the first time the rugged coastline of what is today Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. So thorough were his charts, that mariners used them for well over a hundred years. One of the world’s great mariners, George Vancouver was born in King’s Lynn, UK on June 22, 1757. Although the British Navy Captain’s life ended in obscurity when he died in 1798, the city that bears his name will recognize his remarkable achievements.
