The festive season is a time to get in touch with friends and family who are far away, and technology has evolved to make this possible. People now send texts and emails as well as Christmas cards, and rather than relying upon a piece of radio equipment such as this we have Skype to reach distant loved ones.

This radio receiver was used in wardroom on a US naval vessel present during the surrender of Japan WWII. It was not part of ships original equipment, but was more likely to have been someone’s personal property.
