The Franklin Expedition: Artifact Exploration
Thursday, May 19th, 2016, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
On May 19, 1845, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, under the command of Sir John Franklin, set sail from England on an ill-fated voyage in search of the Northwest Passage, never to return.
To commemorate the anniversary of this significant event, Museum visitors are invited to view and handle reproductions of real artifacts rescued from Sir John Franklin’s HMS Erebus. Examine an illuminator, a Blue Willow Pattern plate, and a small 3D replica of the HMS Erebus bell, and try your hands at writing underwater like a Parks Canada diver! While you’re at it, view our feature exhibit, Across the Top of the World: Quest for the Northwest Passage.
Admission is by donation on Thursday nights, 5-8pm
