JULY 14, 2017

The City of Vancouver’s Canada 150+ team is presenting the Gathering of Canoes at the Maritime Museum and Hadden Park, Friday July 14.

We would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some details of the event and how this might impact you.

Up to 30 canoes—with First Nations, Public Service Agencies and youth paddlers—will request permission to land on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Activities include ceremony, crafts, entertainment and speeches.

The proposed schedule is as follows:

  • 10:00am – Spectators begin to arrive
  • 11:30am – Canoes arrive
  • 11:30 – 12:30 -  Canoe landing and Protocol
  • 12:30 – 1:30 – Speeches and entertainment
  • 1:30 – 2:00pm – Departure Protocol
  • 2:00 – 4:00pm – Entertainment, crafts
    4:00pm – Event ends
  • Hadden Park dog off leash areas will be closed until 5pm on Friday July 14, 2017.  Notice will be posted on-site.

While arrival by foot, bicycle and transit will be promoted and encouraged, we do expect heavier than usual traffic in the area as spectators arrive to witness the event.
